On October 31, 2025, the Academy of Justice under the High Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a thematic dialogue on the topic “Current Issues in the Enforcement of Child Support Obligations.” The event was moderated by Yerzhan O. Yegemberdiyev, Candidate of Legal Sciences and Director of the Center for Civil Law Disciplines at the Academy of Justice.

The dialogue was organized with the participation of master’s students within the framework of the academic discipline “Specifics of the Judicial Consideration of Cases Arising from Family Relations,” under the guidance of Dr. Aygul A. Assylbekova, PhD, Associate Professor of the Center. The primary goal of the event was to expand the legal perspectives of future judges, deepen their understanding of pressing legal challenges through practical case analysis, and strengthen their analytical and professional competencies.

During the session, participants discussed issues related to the regulation of child support obligations, judicial practice in resolving relevant disputes, challenges associated with the enforcement of court decisions, and the right of adult children to receive support.

Among the speakers were judges from Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office, private judicial enforcement officers, and legal scholars. Master’s students of the Academy also delivered presentations and shared their proposals for improving legal mechanisms.

The discussion addressed a wide range of issues, including:

• judicial resolution of disputes arising from family-based maintenance obligations,
• liability for failure to comply with court decisions,
• enforcement of child support orders in cases involving foreign nationals, and
• challenges related to evasion of support payments.

Following the dialogue, participants formulated practical recommendations aimed at enhancing the legal framework governing child support relations and strengthening cooperation between the judiciary and enforcement bodies.
