
On October 22, 2025, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a conference on the topic: “Arbitration in Kazakhstan: Current State and Development Prospects.”
The event brought together judges, representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice, arbitration institutions, the academic community, practicing lawyers, and attorneys.
Maygul Nestayevna Abilova, Director of the Center for Academic Programs and Projects of the Academy of Justice under the High Judicial Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, took part in the conference and delivered a presentation on “Issues of Applicable Law in Arbitration (When Resolving Disputes Involving a Foreign Element).” In her address, Director Maygul Abilova discussed the principle of party autonomy and the determination of applicable law in arbitration proceedings.
Following the discussions, participants developed a set of proposals and recommendations aimed at improving the arbitration system and strengthening its interaction with the judiciary.
